Tweet of the week

April 14, 2008 By: Rick Category: Uncategorized 1 Comment →

So I’m sitting here, doing some homework, just minding my own business, when this tweet from Rich pops up:

I say the future needs artists who are called to the church who love the church and who are in churches who know how to love and lead them.

Un-freaking-believable. I was just blown away. I had a brief IM conversation with him about it, and got to know a little about what was behind that one.  But I still suspect there’s quite a bit more underneath.

Thanks, Rich.  I hope we get to hear more.

You Ask, I’ll Answer

January 16, 2008 By: Rick Category: Uncategorized 4 Comments →

Since consolidating my two blogs into this one, I have no idea where my readership is these days.  I’m still trying to figure out what this blog is all about, so perhaps I’m setting myself up for something.  That said, I’m intrigued by a couple of posts by Los and by Crystal, and thought I’d give it a shot.  Here’s how it works:  You ask me anything in the comment section, and I’ll answer.  Anything.  Polls close 24 hours from now, or 9:00pm PST on Thursday.  We’ll see what happens.  This should be fun.

Oh, and this isn’t really a meme, but if you decide to pick this up and run with it, let me know.

Free business cards from Vista Print

October 29, 2007 By: Rick Category: Uncategorized 1 Comment →

250 business cards for “free”, but you do have to pay $5.45 s/h.  I got mine in about three weeks, and the quality is much better than I’ve been able to generate as a graphic here.  The entire time I was designing and ordering these, the company kept suggesting add-ons and other amenities for an extra charge.

All in all, it’s not a bad product.  It’s a nice change from what our local ESD prints up for us.

Eight things

August 07, 2007 By: Rick Category: Uncategorized 4 Comments →

Ms. Mercer tagged me a while back, so I thought this would be as good of a time as any to get back in to my blogging routine.  I’m supposed to post eight things about me, but there are some rules:

1) Post these rules before you give your facts

2) List 8 random facts about yourself

3) At the end of your post, choose (tag) 8 people and list their names, linking to them

4) Leave a comment on their blog, letting them know they’ve been tagged

I’m supposed to try this in 140 characters or less too

I’m not sure what eight people I’m going to tag yet, but I’m sure I’ll think of somebody.  So without further ado, here are eight things about me in 140 characters or less:

  1. 6′ 5″
  2. Lost 58 lbs.
  3. Two boys
  4. Piano/keys and bass guitar
  5. Hermiston, Oregon
  6. Biking
  7. 40
  8. Two degrees from Oregon State.  Go Beavs!

Ok, time to tag some people.  Hopefully they haven’t been tagged yet:

Ok, that’s four.  Hopefully I’m not breaking a bad rule by not tagging more.

Now that I’ve broken my blog-fast, stay tuned for updates and changes in the near future.  If you’re reading this through your aggregator, thanks for sticking with me!  I’m back in the saddle.

Cool Monday diversion

In Hermiston, Oregon, we’re 250+ miles from the coast, but we managed to have one of these bad boys land and take off again in our back yard this morning.  The kids were jacked about it, almost as much as the teachers were.

The new look of meth

April 03, 2007 By: Rick Category: Uncategorized 2 Comments →

cbs5.com - ‘Candy’ Meth Emerges In Bay Area

If you live or work in an area affected by methamphetamines, you might want to take a close look at this story.

Apparently, a new brand of meth is out on the streets now that is more like candy and less like addictive, illegal drugs.  Labeled “candy meth”, it comes in a variety of fun, colorful flavors that have the potential of appealing to younger kids.  It’s only been around since the beginning of the year, and teenagers are already beginning to show up in the emergency rooms after overdosing on the drug.  At least one kid wasn’t aware that it was even a drug; he was told it was Red Bull energy drink in a solidified form.  This article quotes drug counselor Dr. Alex Stalcup as saying: “This is clearly a drug designed to be introduced to children.”  The article continues:

The usual concern with meth is long-term addiction, but Stalcup said the problem with flavored meth is much more urgent: young users are much more likely to overdose, which means they could quickly end up in the emergency room.

“Just a pinch could be a fatal dose,” Stalcup said.

Scary.  I’ve had enough meth-addicted parents and drug-affected kids come through my office to know first hand how nasty this stuff is.  This is where drug prevention and education can go a long ways.  Show your local DARE officer this article and encourage him to make sure the word gets out.
