If Jesus Had a Blog

April 22, 2008 By: Rick Category: Church stuff 3 Comments →

I just found my new favorite blog feature series: Letters from Kamp Krusty: New Kamp Krusty Feature: “If Jesus Had a Blog” . The concept isn’t new (What if Jesus had a blog?) but it hits right on the money in so many ways. The first post is about Jesus and his interaction with the Pharisees about false religion:

Anyway, I was hanging out with some religious leaders. They got on my case for not keeping their Favorite Rules (apparently, you HAVE to wash up before dinner, in accordance with scripture.) I told them religious leaders love to have rules to make everyone else feel inadequate. They “tithe”, and stuff, but my Father doesn’t care, because He’s all about people having hearts for mercy, and justice, not the tithing rule.

Didn’t fly very well. :0

Now, check out some of the comments, like the one from the music minister:

Yeah, let’s all stop tithing. Let’s stop obeying all the rules. There won’t be any pastors, and we won’t be able to pay the bills for our churches. Nice.

And how about the line from the Apostle Paul:

Almost as soon as I get a new group of Jesus-blog-followers going, and then I try to recognize the mature SERVANTS among them, they all start ranking themselves, and jostling for position and attention. Unbe-freaking-lievable.

Most of these commenters are just trying to argue with Christ so they don’t lose the ministry that’s important to them. Don’t we do the same thing today? Good stuff here.

Floating Thoughts: Earth Day Edition

April 22, 2008 By: Rick Category: Floating thoughts 1 Comment →

Just some random thoughts going through my head!

  • I’m not really doing much for Earth Day; it just looked a little better in the title than just putting today’s date.
  • My oldest son is turning 16 next week. 16. What the heck happened?
  • I’m REALLY liking this current version of ScribeFire. Having multiple posts going is great. I can save them and come back, finish them, and publish them when I’m ready. Or not, however I’m thinking at the time.
  • I put out a survey to our district counselors today using Google Docs. Took me under 5 minutes to set up and got me the information I needed in a hurry.
  • Unseasonably cold here. I’d like to get on my bike again on a regular basis, but man…brrrr…Maybe I just need to man up and get out there.
  • I take my Praxis for school administrators this weekend. Apparently, studying for it isn’t much of a help; you either know it or you don’t. Still, I’m going over my notes from my classes for the next few evenings. Hit me up if you want to talk a little case law over a locally made, amber-colored, fermented beverage.

The Doodler

Rich Kirkpatrick doodling is kind of like LeBron James playing HORSE. Even when he’s just messing around, he’s going to beat you hands down. Rich’s doodles are leagues better than my most valiant attempts at art. Lucky for us, Rich has posted his doodles on his blog which you can see here: Rich Kirkpatrick’s Weblog: Art

And Rich, if it’s ok, I’m including your latest Earth Day doodle for us to see:

Scribefire updated

April 22, 2008 By: Rick Category: Blogworthy No Comments →

I generally use either Windows Live Writer or the blog editor right inside of Flock, but sometimes I’m away from my laptop, and all I have is portable Firefox on my USB drive to work with. Scribefire is a blog editor that exists as an extension within Firefox. In the past, that’s been a “just good enough” scenario, one that’s just slightly above the native editor inside of WordPress itself. That’s not saying much. However, the latest release is a considerable improvement on the old one, and there are several features to it that just might become a consideration for your full-time blogging use. Just a few of the updates:

  • Tabbed editing, so you can keep multiple posts out at the same time. Just in case you’re a blogging junkie and can’t get enough of them at once.
  • Quickblogging feature to quickly edit posts that are already up.
  • Adjust timestamp.
  • New Share/Promote tab that lets you quickly submit your posts to social bookmarking sites. However, I see a few buttons from sites I don’t recognize, and there are a few that are missing…namely del.icio.us.
  • Quick YouTube and Flickr integration

I might also add that the layout is considerably cleaner and user-friendly than in the past. Adding images and other media is a snap now. If you want a blog editor available right inside your Firefox browser, then you need to check this out. I’d been getting used to the Flock editor, but I think I’ll be using this one any time Live Writer isn’t available to me.

Resonance

April 20, 2008 By: Rick Category: Blogworthy No Comments →

I’ve really connected with a few tweets from fellow tweeter and all-around good guy John:

It’s Sunday… Another run week of deciding between an array of social networking churches that even fail at that

I’ve been there, and in that town even.  Social networking is as old as the first century church, at least.  Sadly, that concept is lost on a lot of churches these days.  Gotta take care of our own, ya know.  The invitation is always open over here, guys…

There is something unsettling about seeing a really great kids’ face on the County’s Most Wanted list.

Amen to that.  This is a great kid, and I’ve trusted him in the past to babysit my kids and take care of my place while I was away.  Whatever it is he’s gotten into, I hope he can get things turned around soon.  We’re praying for you, bud.

Listening to: Jonas Brothers - Hollywood — Is it bad to like a band the kids are listening to?

In general, no.  I only know about the Jonas Bros. from cd’s that the kids have at my house, though, so I can’t speak much to them.  My oldest son has turned me on to the music of Flogging Molly.

Run across any good tweets today?
